A home of a local boater in Green River Cove (Saluda, NC)
In the wake of Hurricane Helene, the paddling community is truly shown its strength and resilience, stepping up in remarkable ways to support the relief efforts in western North Carolina. Among those helping in the disaster zone is RFKC's own Scott Dillard. He is working with many of our friends in the community, providing much needed supplies and assistance to the hardest hit areas. He, along with our dear friend, Alison Watson, have coordinated with Starlink to provide over 100 Starlink units to remote communities who are in desperate need of communication, and people are stoked.

Throughout the region, volunteer kayakers have become lifelines for isolated communities. With many roads cut off, paddlers are delivering food and water, conducting wellness checks, and offering hope where it’s needed most. Their efforts, captured in videos posted by those in the paddling community on social media, have helped raise awareness of the severe damage and the urgent need for aid in remote, mountainous areas that have been left inaccessible by the storm.
For many boaters in our valley including the Dillards, this effort hits especially close to home. We have a long history with the paddling community in western North Carolina, and many of our most cherished memories have been made on the same rivers that are now wreaking havoc on the communities we care about. We couldn't be prouder to be part of the community of paddlers who are stepping up to rebuild.
